We filled the bucket with water and put in all the ice inside the bucket. We planned to pour this icy cold water on any fellow student who entered first in the classroom. I stood with the water behind the door and my friend kept watch on who was going to enter. He stepped out of the classroom and saw three of our class fellows coming toward the classroom from the right side, I quickly hid behind the door, and as soon as they entered I poured all the cold water. After pouring all the water I saw that they were not the students but our class counselor. My heart just sank and I started breathing heavily. Our class counselor was coming from the left and even my friend did not look at her.

She looked at me very angrily and I just ran away at that time. After hours I went to her, explained everything and said sorry for my mistake and she was kind enough to forgive me. Writing sample of essay on a given topic "The Most Dangerous Game". Because you need to remind the readers of what you want to do in your life at the beginning and in the end of the essay. This is an essay about you and your life. This is your chance to speak about yourself and just yourself. The readers need to know about what drives you. The biggest mistake students make is that they start talking about the organization they are linked with. For instance, if you worked at the UN for your summer internship, you do not need to define what the UN is and what do they do. Everybody knows about that and that is what Google is for as well.

But what we need to know about is what you learnt from the experience and how did it help you achieve the goals of your life. Talk about how as a student, working at the UN was an eye-opening experience and how. Explain what you did and not what the organization made you do. So, make sure you fill it with yourself and be as original as possible. You might have heard this point during your English subject classes as well. For any essay, it is essential that you break the essay in different paragraphs. A 5-paragraph essay about your life seems sufficient to cover the bits and pieces you want to the readers to know. This will help you remain concise and cover different topics in one essay.

For instance, the first paragraph can be the main purpose or motivation you have in life and how did you find the calling. The second can be about your academic training so far, the third can be about professional experiences you have had so far, fourth can be what you wish to do about the motivation and a conclusion to wrap things up. Different paragraphs allow you to put different puzzles. It will also not bore the reader as an essay without paragraphs can be hard to read. When you are writing an essay about yourself and your life, one go is not enough. Every time you read it again , you might remember a different point about yourself which is pertinent for the article. Each time you read it again, you might view the piece with a different outlook.

Just like things did not happen in your life overnight, your life essay cannot be written in one go either. Give it time and thought. Invest some time in your essay, just as you should in your life goals. Also, reading it repeatedly helps pointing different mistakes as well and for any essay, it is essential that it is free from mistakes. If possible, ask your trusted sibling or friend to give it a read as well. Getting a second opinion on the article will help you make the essay better as well. Finally, what you need to do is to reread the essay after a couple of hours or a day. Give your mind a break in between, get yourself occupied in something else and then read the essay all over again. A fresher mind always works better, regardless of what the assignment is. And when it comes to my life essay, something we struggle to express, giving a break to your mind goes a long way.

So, it does not sound as difficult as you thought, right? Remember, the essay is about your life, your journey, and your motivations in life. Instead, we should control the happenings around us. Life is so easy, yet many people rush and miss what they want to achieve in life. Take one step at a time. Each step should be properly planned before being launched. Steady, balance, mark and shoot. And before you know it, the sky will become the beginning of your success. All the great men of today, has one way or the other tasted the other side of life but they did not cower. Instead, they were renewed to redefine their goals; they ride on with faith, believing in their potential, focusing their mind on something, knowing fully well that in every black cloud there is always a silver lining.

As you see this essay is a chance to express your life philosophy and values to the readers and give them a sense of who you are. Certainly, you need to describe your life in this essay. But what is a sense when there is no relevance to the reader? Indeed, this topic is quite philosophical to involve others in its discussion. It is true there is no possible way to discuss it on paper, but still, it is possible to touch on the reader. Despite the fact that you should tell about your life in your personal voice, you should address the reader directly. Look at how it is done in an essay sample. The final words deserve a special notice — it is a direct question referred to the reader.

Consider starting your essay with an anecdote that introduces your thesis.

For instance, if you're writing about your family's culture, you could start by talking about the first festival you went to and how it inspired you. Related Articles. Article Summary. Co-authored by Alicia Cook Last Updated: May 14, References. Part 1. Determine the goal of your essay. An autobiographical essay, also called a personal narrative essay, should tell the reader about your life, personality, values and goals. The essay should tell the reader what is important to you, what your values are, and any life experiences that influenced the way you experience the world. Your transcript, your letters of recommendation, and your resume will provide an overview of your work experience, interests, and academic record. Your essay allows you to make your application unique and individual to you, through your personal story.

Your essay should show you can create a meaningful piece of writing that interests your reader, conveys a unique message, and flows well. If you are writing a life story for a specific school assignment, such as in a composition course, ask your teacher about the assignment requirements. Make a timeline of your life. Writing down your story in chronological order can be a good brainstorming tool and help you highlight the key moments in your life. If family member births, deaths, marriages, and other life moments are important to your story, write those down as well. Focus on experiences that made a big impact on you and remain a strong memory. Especially focus on the beginning and ending of your story—where did you come from, and where did you end up?

Then, choose stories in the middle that tell how you got there. Look for themes in your life story. Once you have all the facts of your life down on paper, think about an experience that carries a theme. The theme of an essay should be the major idea you are trying to convey to the reader. The theme should be woven in throughout your essay and serve as a touchstone for your essay as a whole. Do you have a story to tell about your cultural or ethnic background, or your family traditions? Have you dealt with failure or life obstacles? Do you have a unique passion or hobby? Have you traveled outside of your community, to another country, city, or area? What did you take away from the experience and how will you carry what you learned into a college setting?

Go over your resume. Another way to pinpoint key moments or experiences in your life is to look through your resume or C. Check your education and work history, as well as any special accomplishments or awards you have received. Think about any awards or experiences you would like spotlight in your essay. For example, explaining the story behind your Honor Roll status in high school, or how you worked hard to receive an internship in a prestigious program. Remember that your resume or C. is there to list off your accomplishments and awards, so your life story shouldn't just rehash them. Instead, use them as a jumping-off place to explain the process behind them, or what they reflect or do not reflect about you as a person.

Read some good examples. If you have friends who have gotten into prestigious colleges, ask them if you can read their life story essays. Talk with your guidance counselor, too; often, they have sample essays you can look at, or instructional guides that include examples. The New York Times publishes stellar examples of high school life story essays each year. You can read some of them on the NYT website. Part 2. Structure your essay around a key experience or theme. Choose one major theme to focus your essay. Think about a past experience that holds a certain theme, and try to relate it to the program or position you are applying for. Consider how you handled these situations and any life lessons you learned from these lessons.

Try to connect past experiences to who you are now, or who you aspire to be in the future. Your time in foster care, for example, may have taught you resilience, perseverance and a sense of curiosity around how other families function and live. Avoid familiar themes. The best way to make your essay stand out is to keep your story authentic and true to you. Many applicants do not have a spectacular story to share, but they can still be successful by writing about an everyday occurrence that is meaningful to them. Avoid sports injuries stories, such as the time you injured your ankle in a game and had to find a way to persevere.

You should also avoid using an overseas trip to a poor, foreign country as the basis for your self transformation.
